How can I summarize an X video without treating the post’s commentary as spoken evidence?

Summarize a public X clip with Damas, then separate checked speech, post commentary and missing context in a source-linked note.

To summarize an X video without losing context, use Damas for the transcript and built-in summary, then check the clip separately from the post’s written commentary. Record what the speaker actually says, what the posting account adds and what the clip cannot establish. Damas provides editable, copyable text; you make this attribution record manually.

Prepare the clip and an overview

Damas accepts supported public, on-demand YouTube, Instagram and X video links up to 90 minutes. On iPhone, you need iOS 18.6 or later, internet, Premium and consent for AI processing. Process only material you are authorized to use. Private, restricted and live videos are unsupported; public media can also be inaccessible.

  1. Open the X post and keep its original link. Read the post text yourself and note whether the account is posting its own recording or sharing someone else’s clip; leave this uncertain if you cannot establish it.
  2. Provide the supported video link in Damas and follow the current instructions for transcription and the built-in summary. Review AI consent before proceeding.
  3. Wait for processing. Use the summary for orientation, then return to the full transcript and replay important passages in the original video.
  4. Check names, numbers, negatives and conditions. Identify the speaker from the recording only when it supplies enough evidence; the posting account is not automatically the speaker.
  5. Edit and copy the checked text, keeping the source link with your note. Separately label any post text you have read manually.

Keep three sources of meaning separate

For each important claim, create three fields: checked speech from the clip, commentary read in the post, and context not established by the clip. Put the supporting passage beside the speech field. Label your shortened wording as a paraphrase. Do not insert the posting account’s claim into the speech field unless the recording actually supports it.

The post may describe an event, name a speaker or say when something happened. Treat those as claims made in the post until independently checked. A publication date does not establish the recording date. A cut at the beginning or end may leave out the question or a condition. Record the gap rather than reconstructing absent footage. This workflow does not establish automatic processing of the post text, replies or thread.

Fictional example: a test becomes a decision

This is an invented teaching example, not a quotation from a real X post. Imagine that the post announces a complete change of a review process, while the clip describes testing one document before deciding whether to expand the method.

  • Clip: a limited test before a later decision. Keep the checked supporting passage and its condition.
  • Post commentary: a complete change is announced. Attribute that wording to the posting account, not the speaker.
  • Missing context: the clip does not show the later decision or establish that the test happened. Leave both unresolved; do not infer completion, an owner or a deadline.

Copy a note that carries its limits

Write the overview with the attribution still visible: the clip describes the test; the post presents a broader conclusion; the clip does not establish that conclusion. For your real source, use only checked passages and keep the account identity separate from speaker identity. Use quotation marks only for exact words verified in the recording. A faithful account of speech does not prove that its underlying claim is true.

No external LLM is needed. If you optionally ask another LLM to format copied text, share only permitted material and keep speech and commentary in separate labeled inputs. Require it to leave missing context unresolved and check every result yourself. This is an external drafting step, not a Damas integration or automatic verification feature.

Start with video transcription for the full text. The summary guide explains the overview; use quotation checking before repeating exact words.

Processing time and accuracy vary with the source, audio and connection. Damas does not download media, dub speech, embed subtitles or process offline. Premium cannot bypass source restrictions. If the clip becomes inaccessible, keep unfinished checks unresolved and share only within your reuse rights.
