To make an Instagram video transcript without mixing sources, use Damas to transcribe the speech from a supported public Reel, then inspect the visible captions yourself. Keep what you heard, what you read on screen and any disagreement in separate records. Damas supplies editable, copyable text; this comparison is your manual work.
Prepare the Reel and its transcript
Damas supports public, on-demand YouTube, Instagram and X video links up to 90 minutes. On iPhone you need iOS 18.6 or later, internet, Premium and AI processing consent. Submit only material you are authorized to process. Private, restricted and live videos are unsupported; even a public source can be inaccessible.
- Open the Reel on Instagram and keep its original link in your working note. Confirm that it contains audible speech relevant to your question.
- Paste the supported link into Damas and follow the current transcription instructions. Review the AI consent before proceeding.
- Choose original-language transcription when you need the words actually spoken. A translation changes the language and a summary shortens the account.
- Wait for processing, then replay the source while reading the transcript. Correct uncertain words only when the audio supports the correction.
- Watch the same passage for visible captions. Record screen-only information separately before editing and copying your final note.

Keep three records when the words disagree
For each important passage, write three labeled entries: speech checked against audio, text checked on screen, and unresolved disagreement. Attach enough surrounding words to identify the passage again. These entries are a note you create yourself, not an automatic Damas output or alignment.
Do not overwrite an audible statement merely because a caption looks more polished. If the caption is a shortened paraphrase, label it that way. If a number, negative or condition differs, preserve both versions with their source labels and leave the conclusion open. The transcription task does not establish extraction of printed text from images.
If the Reel contains only music and written words, this speech workflow cannot supply the missing spoken account. Read the screen yourself within your permissions. An inaudible word stays unverified even when a caption offers a plausible replacement.
Fictional example: conflicting registration information
This is an invented teaching example, not a quotation from a real Reel. Imagine that the voice says registration opens on Monday while the visible caption says registration is closed.
- Speech record: registration opens on Monday; check the actual words and surrounding condition in the recording.
- Screen record: registration is closed; label this as text you read in the image.
- Disagreement: current registration status is unresolved. Neither a fluent transcript nor a short summary establishes which message is current.
In a real note, copy exact wording only after checking it. Do not invent a publication date, explanation for the mismatch, owner or deadline to reconcile the messages. If the status matters, seek clarification from the source before acting.
Copy a note that preserves its basis
Keep the source link, the checked speech, the separate visual note and unresolved questions together. Use quotation marks only for exact words you verified; label your shortened account as a paraphrase. No external LLM is needed for this method.
For the initial text, see video link transcription. To read the speech in another language, use text translation, which translates into 70 languages. For an overview after checking discrepancies, see built-in summaries.
Accuracy and processing time vary. Damas does not download media, dub speech, embed subtitles or process offline. Premium does not bypass source restrictions. If the Reel becomes inaccessible, leave unfinished checks unresolved and share only within your reuse rights.
